Calling all educators! As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, immerse yourself in Tennessee’s rich history with a multi-day professional development experience designed to deepen your understanding of our state’s pivotal role in shaping our nation.
What to Expect: Explore Historic Places through Site Visits – Explore key historical landmarks from the revolutionary era in Upper East Tennessee, including:
- Sycamore Shoals State Park – Learn the history of the Cherokee, Overmountain men, and the conflicts of early settlement.
- Sabine Hill – A beautifully restored 19th-century home with Federal-style charm
- Carter Mansion – The oldest standing frame house in Tennessee
- Tipton-Haynes Historic Site – Tells the rich story of the history of Northeast Tennessee and of the several families that lived there
Engage with Expert Historians & Guest Speakers – Deepen your understanding and gain insights from renowned scholars who will bring history to life through modern research and new interpretive strategies.
Experience Living History Programs – Learn historical perspectives of different people groups through living history and museum programming.
Gain Curriculum Resources – Develop practical classroom resources through interactive sessions with other experienced colleagues.
Stay for the Celebration!
Participants are encouraged to extend their stay and experience the special Sycamore Shoals anniversary event Independence on the Frontier, commemorating the legacy of Tennessee’s early settlers and their contributions to American independence.
Each teacher that participates will receive a $200 stipend. Free lodging at DoubleTree by Hilton Johnson City included for all three nights.
