Hi everyone! As we kick off a new year, the Tennessee Council for History Education is excited to announce the launch of our new blog “The Mockingbird’s Call” exploring history and history education in our state.
If you have attended one of our annual conferences in years past, you know that we are fortunate in this state to have many wonderful individuals and organizations dedicating their time and energy to support quality history education. While the annual conference provides one of my favorite opportunities to learn from this community of history education professionals, one day is just not enough! So after several conversations amongst our board, we have decided to launch this blog as a way to extend the conversations and create a place that history education professionals in Tennessee can connect with each other year round. The blog will seek to highlight work happening with history research, museum education, and classroom teaching. We hope that you will use this blog as a place to share ideas, connect with the larger community of history education professionals in the state, and highlight resources that you use in your own work.
As with any new initiative, we are planning to start small with hopes to grow moving forward. In our first year, we will be publishing quarterly and featuring the work of some of our wonderful board members. The Tennessee Council for History Education board is a group of volunteers from across the state working in K-12 settings, higher education, and museums. The work of TNCHE could not be accomplished without this dedicated group of volunteers. If you are interested in learning more about TNCHE or would like to inquire about how you can become involved, please feel free to reach out to me or any of my fellow board members.
This blog is not just for TNCHE to share information though! We would love to hear from you all about what topics you would like to see covered. We also invite you to be a guest contributor to the blog. We look forward to hearing from you all in this new year!
