The Papers of Martin Van Buren project is very excited to partner with the Center for Digital Editing and Rebecca Shulman of Museum Questions Consulting in bringing Van Buren’s documents into the high school classroom.
We are inviting high school social studies teachers to join us to co-develop lessons around themes from the mid-19th century that retain their importance today. Participants will take a deep dive into the work and life of President Martin Van Buren, thinking deeply about topics such as the two-party political system, presidential campaigning, territorial expansion, and democracy.
Participating teachers will be paid a stipend of $2000, and will join monthly zoom meetings, develop and test lessons for use in the classroom, and co-develop and lead a workshop for a larger group of teachers.
Please share this link, with more information and an application form, with any high school teachers who might be interested in joining us!
This initiative is the result of a Teaching with Primary Sources grant from The Library of Congress and the American Historical Association.
